Notre Dame Tour

Visit Notre-Dame with Preferential Access
Located on Île de la Cité above the Seine River, the Notre-Dame Cathedral is a jewel of Gothic architecture. Construction began in 1163 and continued through the 14th century, combining Gothic design with subtle Romanesque influences. Today, visitors can once again explore the cathedral’s renewed interior after its grand reopening in December 2024.

Admire the Architecture and Legendary Rose Windows
See flying buttresses, ribbed vaults, the famous rose windows, and the western façade with its sculpted portals and twin 69-meter towers. Inside, soaring naves lead to the choir, home to the 18th-century Pietà and relics historically linked to the Crown of Thorns.

Discover the Story of Destruction and Restoration
From Revolutionary damage to Victor Hugo’s influence and the 19th-century restorations by Viollet-le-Duc, Notre-Dame has survived centuries of change. After the 2019 fire destroyed the spire and roof, massive restoration efforts returned the cathedral to its original splendor.

Map and location

The meeting point will be at the Pont au Double, located next to the cathedral.

  • The easiest way to reach the meeting point is by metro. The nearest station is Cité on line 4. Make sure to head in the correct direction (towards Porte de Clignancourt or Bagneux - Lucie Aubrac, depending on where you are).

Upon exiting the Cité station, walk to the Pont au Double, a small pedestrian bridge that connects the Île de la Cité with the left bank of the Seine. The walk is just 3 minutes.

  • The bridge is located right next to the most important suburban train station in the Latin Quarter, Saint-Michel – Notre Dame. Both line B and line C stop at this station:

RER B. Connects the north and south of Paris. It is the line that arrives from and goes to Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) and Orly Airport (ORLYBUS), as well as the large southern suburbs.

RER C. Runs along the Seine River. Connects the west and southeast of Paris.

From the RER Saint-Michel - Notre-Dame station, follow the signs to exit towards Quai Saint-Michel, the quay next to the river, or towards Place Saint-Michel. Walk briefly along the quay (about 150 meters) and you will see the Pont au Double.

    • Maubert - Mutualité (Line 47). Less than 7 minutes on foot.

Upon getting off at the quay (Quai de Montebello), you will be on the left bank of the Seine. The Pont au Double will be the small pedestrian bridge you see crossing towards the Île de la Cité (where Notre Dame is). You only have to walk a few meters to get onto the bridge.

  • Paris has a very practical bike-sharing system called Vélib’. Near the meeting point, you will find several stations to drop off or pick up a bike:
